Gets Hot!, but works
I gave this a try cause it was the only nvme enclosure that looked small in form factor and didn't need any tools to work, I've been using it with a Intel760p SSD and it has worked flawlessly. It does get hot, sometimes it worries me, so I just put my hand on it (is not hot enough to burn my hand) and I pretty much take the heat out of it with my hand, wait till it gets hot again and repeat.I have not been using it for intensive file transfers, but I do boot a windows 10 installation from it form time to time and run it for a couple hours at each time, and so far I have had no trouble with it, Mind you I'm in New England in the middle of the winter so my room temperature doesn't go above 75 at any given time.I'm considering getting a cheap usb fan just to let it seat on it if I'm gonna do intensive operations on it, but still given how incredibly compact it is and how convenient being tool less is, I will keep it, is aluminum it has holes on the sides, and is a fact that nvme drives get hot, so I don't think any other enclosure in this form factor is gonna do better, if you plan to use your nvme ssd as a external drive for long periods and heavy transfers then I suggest you to pony up and get one enclosure with a positive ventilation system (one of those that have a fan integrated). if you go with any of these budget ones are gonna get hot and maybe fry your ssd.

Causes VNME SSD to overheat and fail.
I purchased this along with a Crucial VNME 550 GB SSD. It seemed to worked fine until I backed up my OS to it. The Crucial SSD overheated. Replaced both items. It turns out the crucial was bad but this the original adapter still worked. The new item again overheated the new Crucial SSD. I the tired the same operation my installing the Crucial SSD into my motherboard. No Overheat. I tried a Samsung EVO 970 in the adapter. It also overheated. There obviously is a problem with the adapter. I do not recommend. The original Crucial SSD is bad. Additionally, the adapter uses a rubber insert in place of a screw which does not always hold the ssd in place.

DOA
Purchased for backup use. The drive enclosure came DOA. The m.2 I purchased at the same time worked fine in the other startech enclosure i already own.
