Expected pretty cheap product. Spy glasses actually work as do the compasses. The one compass has a neat design on the front.

Broke on the first use.

They will be a fun toy until they break. They feel pretty cheap and that worries me, but they are holding up so far.

After using paper towel (ok, mostly toilet paper) rolls for years, the kids now get to play with "real" telescopes! The expanding part of the spyglass is easy enough for little hands, but the compasses could get tricky. Note that the telescopes aren't going to do much magnification and the lenses will probably get trashed quickly by fingers and other toys.

These are fantastic for kids, or adults, who want to play pirate. The compasses are OK. They wont win awards and are not for backpacking, but the kids love knowing which way north is. The eyeglasses or telescopes are functional. I don't know the magnification, my guess is 2xto 5x at most, but it is useful and fun. I fully expect to take them hiking with the kids this summer.

I got these for my son's birthday. I'm not super impressed, I was hopeful that they would sort of work, but then again, they are toys after all. The spyglasses are flimsy plastic, but the telescoping opens and closes as it should. You can look through it and see things, but it doesn't really magnify anything at all. The compasses look impressive, real metal, one is plain brass, it's a little difficult to open, and the compass looks like it would work, it spins around like it's looking for North, but it doesn't always point North; as I said, it is a toy and as long as you're not trying to use it hiking, a child playing pirates won't care where it points. The other compass has "New York" designs on it. It's much easier to open, you only have to push a button and it flips open, and it also spins around, it appears to actually point to the north every time I check. So all in all, if you just want a cheap toy for your child to play pirates with, this'll do the job, and the price reflects that.

These are really fun little props for my boys when they play. The best part is that they actually work! The compass is accurate, which is nice to help little ones learn about directions. I really appreciate that they are 2 different colors so each of my boys will know which is his. I deducted one star because of their fragility. They are made from thinner plastic, and children who are rough on toys, or younger, could pretty easily break these. Probably better suited for older children.
