Outstanding quality, modest cost ...
I purchased this because I like to collect coins and needed something with a lot more power than a magnifying glass, yet is much smaller. This jewelers loupe is exactly what fit that bill. When I first saw it's price I figured it was going to be all plastic, but the magnification would be strong enough to see very fine details in coins; I was very pleased to see that the casing is made out of very heavy and sturdy polished steel. The lenses are as good as glass, and the magnification is awesome. Some say that it is more like 20 power, but mine sure magnifies those small details though. Another impressive feature is that it is illuminated, and the light is quite bright. It has two tiny leds that emit quite a bit of light, yet it is focused perfectly on whatever you are looking at up close through the loupe, be it coins, stamps, bugs, micro-printing, etc. The light is powered by 3 thick button type batteries, that should last a very, very long time, before you have to replace them, and when it's time to replace them, a handy little metal gadget to unscrew the top for the batteries is included in the case that you store the loupe in. Cleaning the lenses of the loupe is quite easy, merely use a damp q-tip and gently stroke the lenses free of any smudges. Other than that, this little guy is well worth the money for the quality and features you get. These are priced just right to give as novelty gifts to friends and family, which I am going to do around the holiday season.

Excellent value for money
There are not many things one buys nowadays that are good value for money. Usually they have built in obsolescence - to the end of their warranty usually about a year. This little gadget looks as though it will last forever!I have always wanted a loupe but never got around to buying one until recently. I always fancied myself bringing out a loupe in a jewelers with a sort of cool flourish and then impressing the girl at the counter by talking about inclusions, color, cracks and repairs, and the cheap junk they are selling at top prices. Now with a bit of reading up and practice I can do that. But the main reason I bought it is to look at my own jewelery collection. To get to know my own diamonds for insurance purposes. How they can manufacture, market, and sell something like this for the ridiculous price of $4.95 baffles me. It comes in a cardboard box which is color printed, inside the box is an instruction sheet and a nice little sturdy hinged plastic container (that would probably cost a dollar or two to buy at Wal-Mart) inside the box is a key for the battery compartment and then this metal cased loupe. The metal looks like steel. The thing is heavy and substantial. Never having had any experience with loupes before I don't know anything about the magnification, but I understood from reading about them that this magnification is the right one for looking at jewelery. When you take it out of the box you open it like a penknife, there are two very bright lights at the back and a little switch to switch them on. It is easy, efficient, and a great little toy. I would say it is easily worth twice the asking price, and I got it on my PRIME membership so I only paid $4.95 total.THANK YOU AMAZON.

Pretty great for the price
I'm not a jeweler nor an optician; I wanted a small magnifier to be able to read small part numbers. This little guy fits the bill perfectly. It's got a nice solid feel, and the magnifier is clear in the middle. The edge of the lens is distorted, but I think that's normal. The LED light is very bright, but the switch is slightly clumsy to get at, and the LED itself shines off-center of the lens (hence the 4 stars). The case does a fine job of protecting the lens, but doesn't seal, and won't keep dust out. I don't see this as a problem, as it'll be living in a drawer, but if you're going to be out wandering in the field, you may want to consider it (and why would you buy a cheap magnifier then?). Overall I'm quite pleased.

Will buy again!
This is a nice, solid, easy to use loupe for not a lot of money. I wanted a fairly inexpensive loupe to take with me to estate sales. I chose this product for two reasons, first this loupe has real optical glass, which makes a big difference in the clarity of what you are looking at. Second the loupe was very economical. I can carry this loupe and not worry constantly about losing it. The LED light is not only a nice feature but an absolute must when examining a piece of jewlery or details of an antique. The only issue I have had with this product is the screw fell out and I had to get a replacement. I have since put the new screw in and put a little nail polish to help hold it firm. No more lost screws. I am planning on getting another of these to keep in my car for impromptu antique hunting. All in all, this is a surprisingly nice loupe at an inexpensive price!

Nice
This is well constructed, has a bright light and does the job with ease. It also comes with batteries and a nice carrying case. Definitely worth $9.July 2012: It's been a great loupe. Battery started going, so I went to Walmart to get a battery. She told me the batteries were $6 a piece and I needed 3 of them! That's insane. I looked on Amazon and found a package of 10, SE AG7, specifically for this loupe. They only cost $2.94 with free shipping. I'm so glad I didn't buy them at Walmart!Oct 2012: After buying various batteries to try to replace the old ones in this loupe, I finally gave up as none of them worked. I can't explain why. The loupe wasn't defective as the originals still worked, although very dim. So, I was forced to go out and buy another identical loupe. It's a nice loupe, but I can't understand why I couldn't get the replacements batteries (from 3 different companies) to work in this loupe.

Excellent quality
Extremely pleased with the quality of this product. Performs totally to our expectations. Used for metal detecting, gold hunting and general around-the-house usage with jewelry inspection and repairs. Works with or without the light which we found to be a bonus. And the LED lights are double bulbs while our local shops carried only single bulb items. Absolutely recommend this product!

Essential Tool for sharpening
Very nice loupe that I use every time I sharpen my folding knives. It helps to determine where the blade edge needs more work, or where exactly the burr of the blade is. An essential tool for sharpening knives.
