I have had success with off-brand dongles...this is not one of them.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Got this in the mail today 5/9/20. The list of frustrations I have with this product is long:1) The lightning connector was dirty and did not appear new to me. Judge for yourself (see photo). The hdmi and lightning power ports looked fine and when plugged in they connect decently.2) The lightning power cable port has a little flex in it and disconnects if you move the device with the cable plugged in. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW because the power cable is required for the device to function. It does not work without the power cable plugged into a standard apple 5v phone charger. The power cable is not supplied. Also, the dongle will charge my iPhone, but will not charge my ipad.3). This is NOT a plug and Play device as advertised. I first connected the dongle...assuming it worked like every other dongle I have ever used...but there was no signal. I checked the connection to make sure it was tight, but still no signal. Turns out that an app is required for the product to function (see photo). A QR code appears once it is finally connected with the power cable and the HDMI cable. The app updates the firmware, but the instructions are not clear and it would be very easy to install the wrong firmware.4) The lightning connector is larger than the standard apple size. In my house I have a 2015 ipad pro, an iPad Air 3 and an iPhone Xs max. It did not fit any of them with the case on, where as all other accessories I have used fit just fine.5). THE PICTURE QUALITY IS NOT 4K!!!!!! After all the trouble I went through to get it to produce a picture on my samsung TV, I discovered that the picture quality is terrible. It looks worse than airplay does on my 2nd gen apple TV that is 1080p. It is a little difficult to tell from the photo, but the text is not even close to crisp on the TV which is a 4k TV. Additionally it cuts off the very top and bottom of the image. The date/time does not show up on the TV when it is clearly seen on the iPad (see photo). I adjusted the TV settings to the maximum zoom out level and it is still cut off. I also had to adjust the TV aspect ratio to 4:3 to make it look as good as it does. Otherwise the icons were all stretched out wide on a 16:9 aspect ratio. All in all I did get it work at low quality and only intermittently. I am going to return this device ASAP. It is not worth the $20 I paid for it.

This product doesn’t work.
There are multiple, confusing steps given when trying to set up this adapter. First you need to connect it to your phone, an HDMI cord, and then to a power source. Then you need to scan a QR code, which takes you to an unsecured website, and finally you are directed to the AppStore. From there you download an app that’s rated 1.7 stars, then access the app and use it to update your projector. From here your phone will start to make static and ringing noises until the “update” is complete. Then your projector will read ‘no signal,’ and you will repeatedly receive messages and warnings that the accessory is not supported on your phone. However if you are one of the lucky few who own a certain iPhone 7 model, there is a chance the HDMI adapter may work.I have no idea how it got 4.2 stars on Amazon. The product says apple supported, but I simply cannot believe that’s true once I looked through all the AppStore ratings. Almost all of the ratings were the same as mine; accessory doesn’t work, followed the steps, weird noises. One even said the app downloaded malware onto his device.I just wouldn’t buy this. I’m returning mine, and while the product is cheap, it’s not worth the risk and hassle.

Definitely not Apple MFi Certified
This product works to do certain things like watch YouTube and listen to Spotify, but any streaming service with licensing like Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, xfinity stream, amazon prime video... you name it, it won’t work with it.Another thing is that you must be charging your phone with a 12w charger when in use, the kind that comes with iPads, not iPhones. For all that trouble it’s better to just get the $50 one from Apple imo. It will work will almost all streaming services and you do not need to be charging you phone to use it.

Mandatory power source via lightning port required!
Not sure of the Apple branded version but this plug REQUIRES you plug a lighting cable charger into it to get a TV signal. I guess it needs a power source. The description doesn’t state it needs a power source. The only difference between this and a lightning to HDMI cable is which end the power comes from. I’d rather have 2 plugs (HDMI and USB) on the TV side vs 2 plugs (HDMI and Lightning) hanging from your IPhone adapter...

Doesn't work; >1000 1 star reviews on the unsecured website for the required software
Not Apple MiFi Certified, >1000 reviewers of the software you MUST install from an unsafe site say it doesn't work. That was my experience too. It's possible that downloading the software and upgrading the firmware might have made a difference, but multiple reports of malware convinced me it's not worth the risk.Returning to Amazon for a refund.
